Why tattoo on newborn babies with mama numbers?
It was 1943, when Ana Kaminski along with her panic juvenile friend Ester Pasternak forcibly had to take refuge behind the solid gates of Auschwitz on the eve of World War 2.
There amid the unfriendly, uncertain environment, she silently revealed
herself midwife and her friend as her assistant. They went inside the maternity
hut as instructed. Their arms were marked with tattoos. When she arrived in
maternity hut, Anna did midwife job, new born babies born, she tried her best
to save them and hold them back as she could.
It was
difficult for Anna to tolerate tyranny after seeing two guards grabbed away
blond-haired baby from its birth mother after marching with SS uniforms inside
maternity hut. But she could do nothing except consoling her. Along with horror
Anna saw a ray of hope, babies who were born healthy, given to German families
by soldiers. She anticipated that babies will stay alive after handing over and
there were rumors spreading about ending the World War II soon. In order to
identify and reunification of babies back to their mothers, Anna and Ester
noiselessly had tattoo to new born babies with their mama numbers.
It was early morning, Ester was wearing slim striped outfit, but under her tiny bump was visible before Anna.
